  • There’s a big difference between joining a gym and getting trained one-on-one.
    That’s why personal trainers Julie Earl, of Penfield, and Anne Osovski, of Fairport, joined forces to open F.I.T. Gym, now located on West Commercial Street in East Rochester.
    Unlike large gyms, they say the experience at F.I.T. doesn’t make you feel like someone slipping into the back of a crowded room.
    “At some places, you get to the gym, swipe your card, and get on a treadmill,” said Osovski. “Nobody knows you, or how long you’ve been running there.”
    The trainers say this is why many people interested in starting a fitness routine fall by the wayside. This is why they wanted to do things differently at F.I.T. where six different trainers work regularly with private clients. Whether it’s cardio or weight training, the setup is designed for people of all skill levels.
    “Everything that we have planned here is for our clients,” said Earl.
    Both women met while working together at a local gymn before they decided to rent space elsewhere. In May 2011 they began renting out the space at their current location, which is the site of former roller skating rink Sharkey’s Skateway.
    The building shares space with other fitness-related businesses, including Muscle Maintenance, Muscle Therapy, a life coach, and two chiropractic offices. Osovski said this friendly partnership helps each of the businesses share clients.
    “It makes so much sense to have one-stop shopping for referral services,” said Osovski.
    While F.I.T. offers personalized care for people who still wanted to be trained without paying for a full gym membership, it also holds additional classes on evenings and weekends that are open to the public.
    Saturday mornings are often buzzing with energy as guests come for cycling, hula hoop, and zumba classes. In addition to personal training for individuals, youth sports teams, including soccer and lacrosse, have also come to train as a group.
