The Rochester chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation has recently received a $10,000 grant from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield to expand the chapter’s Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes program to local students in grades 3-8.
Students in the program learn about the different types of diabetes and the importance of exercising and eating healthy, and then spend two weeks raising funds for research on type 1 diabetes. The fundraising campaign culminates in a charity walk at the school.
Due to the grant funds, 15 additional schools in the eight-county Rochester area will be able to participate in the program.
