EAST BLOOMFIELD/HOLCOMB F.D. CHICKEN BBQ

The East Bloomfield/Holcomb Fire Department will be hosting a Chicken BBQ on Saturday, May 19, from 4-6 p.m. at Veteran's Park.

(Note the location change due to construction of the new fire station)


RIDGE ROAD FIRE DISTRICT BLOOD DRIVE

The Ridge Road Fire District in Greece will be hosting a Community Blood Drive on Wednesday, May 23, from 1-4 p.m. at the fire station, 1299 Long Pond Road.


WYOMING COUNTY EQUIPMENT SHOW AND STEAK ROAST

The Wyoming County Fire Chief's Association's annual Steak Roast and Equipment Show will be June 5, at the Strykersville Firemen's Grounds, 594 Minkel Road, Strykersville. Vendor exhibits will open at 3 p.m., with dinner being served from 5-8 p.m.. Dinner tickets are $30 and are available by calling (585) 786-2608.

CHICKEN BBQ'S
 
The Mumford Fire Department in Monroe County will be having a Chicken and Rib BBQ on Sunday, May 20 from noon until sold out.
 
The Village of Avon Fire Department will be having a Chicken BBQ following the Memorial Day parade on May 28.
 
 
PARADE AND CONVENTION NEWS
 
The Citizen's Hose Company of Shortsville annual Firemen’s Carnival will be Thursday 6/14 thru Saturday 6/16. The parade will be held Friday, June 15, at 7:00 p.m.. 
 
The Western New York Volunteer Firemen's Convention will be held in Mount Morris, July 26th through 28th. The convention parade will be on Saturday, July 28, at 6:00 p.m. .
 
The Central New York Volunteer Firemen's Convention will be held in New Hartford,  July 20- 23.
 
 
HARRISBURG FIRE EXPO
 

The Lancaster County Firefighter's Assocation's  Fire Expo 2012, will be May 18, 19 and 20 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.  

 
 
NYSAFC FIRE EXPO
 
The 106th Annual Conference of the New York State Association of Fire Chief's will be at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, June 13-16.

Soon it will be parade season for local fire department's . Many of the parades also have carnivals, which help to raise funds to support the operations and purchase needed equipment. Here is a list of some of the parades in the area.

New additions to Rochester F.D. apparatus fleet

The Rochester Fire Department has recently placed in service several new engines. The pumpers built by Rosenbauer, feature a 1250 gallon per minute pump and a 500 gallon water tank. These units have been assigned to Engine 2 on North Clinton Avenue, Engine 7 on Genesee Street and Engine 9 on North Goodman Street.

New pumper for Pittsford Fire Department

The Pittsford Fire Department recently placed in service a new Pierce PUC pumper with a 1500 gallon per minute pump, 500 gallon water tank and a 30 gallon foam cell.

Philadelphia line of duty deaths

Two Philadelphia firefighters were killed on April 9, when a wall fell on them while they were operating at at warehouse fire.

Fundraiser for injured Monroe County 911 dispatcher

A Monroe County 911 Dispatcher, Erika Kleppan, suffered a severe head injury after falling down a flight of stairs on March 31,and will be undergoing rehabiliation at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.  If anyone wishes to help Erika in this time of need, please contact Paul Dentino at pdentino@monroecounty.gov  .

5th Annual David Good Memorial "Bleed & Feed" Blood Drive

The 5th annual David Good memorial blood drive will be held at the West Bloomfield firehouse on Saturday, April 21, from 8:00 a.m. to 1 p.m..
The West Bloomfield Congregational Church will be serving a delicious pancake, egg and sausage breakfast to everyone to shows up to donate.

Garbage Truck Fire

Here is a video from March 27, of a fully involved garbage truck fire with an exposure problem in Amherst, NY. The truck was fueled by natural gas which flared up when a relief valve let go.

Fire News for March 14: Burning ban, Tax credits, St. Patty's parade

OPEN BURNING BAN STARTS MARCH 16

Starting March 16, The New York State Department of Enviromental Consevation has an open burning ban in effect between the dates of March 16th and May 15th. That means no outdoor burning. However, firefighters say its dry enough right now to discourage any burning.


VOLUNTEER FIRE & EMS TAX CREDIT

If you are a volunteer firefighter or EMS provider in New York State, don't forget to claim your $200 tax credit when filing your state taxes.

NEW HEAVY RESCUE FOR ROCHESTER FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Rochester Fire Department has taken delivery of a new Rosenbauer heavy rescue truck on a Spartan chassis.


CANANDAIGUA FIREFIGHTERS TO HOST BLOOD DRIVE

The Canandaigua Fire Department will be hosting a blood drive on Thursday, February 23, 1 - 7 p.m. and February 24, 12:30 - 6:30 p.m. at C.F.D. Station 1, 335 South Main Street.


BENEFIT FOR ENDICOTT FIREFIGHTER UNDERGOING CANCER TREATMENT AT STRONG

There will be a fundraiser for Endicott Firefighter Dana Stockton, who was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer-granulocytic sarcoma. He will be receiving treatment at Strong Memorial Hospital. A benefit will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2-6 p.m., at the Holiday Inn Arena, 2 Hawley Street, Binghamton. Tickets are $15 for individuals; students $5; family $25. Price includes beer, wine, soda, pizza and cookies. A cash bar will also be available. NEW TRUCK FOR CONESUS FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Conesus Volunteer Fire Department in Livingston County recently placed in service a Ford F-350 utility vehicle outfitted by Churchville Fire Equipment. The unit features two different skid mounted configurations for rescue and brush fires. The brush fire set up features a 150 gallon per minute pump,250 gallon water tank as well as a 10 gallon foam tank. The rescue set up features Res Q Tec extrication tools.

EAST AVON PAST FIRE CHIEF PASSES
 
It is with regret I tell you about the death of East Avon Past Fire Chief Larry Morey who passed peacefully at his home on February 5, 2012 at age 59. He is survived by his wife Mary and daughter, Tammy (Raleigh) Hobson as well as a large extended family. He was a member of the East Avon Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years where he proudly served and was Past Fire Chief. He was Past President of the Livingston County Fire Chief's Association, and a member of the Western New York Fireman's Association. He also served fire station design team for the Town of Avon Fire District, and was the Town of Avon fire commissioner for 20 years. .

Family and friends are invited to call Wednesday 1-3, 7-9 PM at the East Avon Fire Station l, 1615 West Henrietta Road, Avon. A firefighters memorial service will be held at 6:15 p.m.  Funeral services will also be held at the fire station on Thursday at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the East Avon Volunteer Fire Department, Avon, NY 14414.
 
 
 
GROVELAND F.D. PANCAKE BREAKFAST
  
The Groveland Volunteer Fire Department in Livingston County will be holding a pancake breakfast on Sunday, February 12, from 7 to 11 a.m. at the firehouse on Route 63 in Groveland Station.

Fire service photographer Guy Zampatori shot this video of a 2 Alarm house fire on Dartmouth Street in Rochester on January 31. In the beginning of the video, you will hear the air horns on the fire trucks sounding as a signal to the firefighters inside to evacuate.
