Dr. Rocco Vivenzio, of Penfield, and Eileen Grossman, of Pittsford, have been honored with Rochester Business Journal Health Care Achievement awards.
Nominated by members of the Highland Hospital team, Vivenzio and Grossman, who work in the health care industry, have contributed significantly to the community.
Vivenzio, who served as medical director of the Strong Health Geriatrics Group and many other nursing facilities during his 30-year career, was instrumental in improvements in health care for patients in the Rochester area. Vivenzio founded the Strong Health Geriatrics Group, which generated a network of doctors and health care providers to care for those in nursing homes or assisted-living facilities.
"Dr. Vivenzio revolutionized geriatric care in Rochester and beyond," said Dr. Robert McCann, Highland Hospital chief of medicine, who nominated Vivenzio for the award.
Vivenzio is currently retired from Strong Health Geriatrics Group, but remains the medical director of three nursing homes. He is being honored in the Senior Care category.
Eileen Grossman received her award in the volunteer category. Grossman is a co-founder of the Cancer Wellness Spa of Greater Rochester and the 5K Walk for Ovarian Cancer.
"Thousands of patients have benefited from the Cancer Wellness Spa, and it is because of Eileen's ingenuity and generosity," said Cindy Becker, Highland Hospital vice president and chief of housing, who nominated Grossman for the award. "Eileen has turned a frightening and draining treatment into a more positive and tolerable experience."
Grossman and Vivenzio will be honored at a luncheon March 29, along with the other achievement award honorees.
