Action for a Better Community is currently accepting applications for free home repairs for the elderly, low income, and disabled homeowners.
Up to 50 applicants from Henrietta and Rochester will be chosen after the March 15 deadline to receive repairs by young people brought to the community July 8. Work to be done includes porch or step repairs, painting, window and door weather stripping, wheelchair ramp repair or construction, mobile home skirting, and porch roof repair.
The repairs will be done by Group Cares, a non-profit home repair organisation with headquarters in Colorado. Group Cares expects to put 25,000 young people to work in 48 work group communities around the country. The local work camp will be housed at Rush Henrietta Ninth Grade Academy, which will be reimbursed for the lodging.
Action for a Better Community is a community action agency promoting self-sufficiency for those with low incomes and assisting them in improving conditions in their community.
