Now that September is here, I have taken to “fall-cleaning” because I never did it in the spring. Every day, I pick a closet and clean it out. It’s really fun (not).
In cleaning out the closets, I found lots of old sneakers, because my children go through pairs and pairs. In the past, I have sent them to the Nike Recycling Center — but I’ve had to box them up and pay for shipping to do this. I hate the idea of throwing the sneakers away — they are beat up and not good to donate, but I don’t want to throw them in the trash either. Then I remembered...ecopark.
Monroe County has teamed up with Waste Management to provide a one-stop drop off for recyclables. I’m not talking just paper and plastics, but items that are harder to get rid of: Televisions, plastics that are not numbers 1 or 2, cell phones, sneakers! The list goes on.
Honestly, ecopark made it so easy to drop off everything. I had a whole box of sneakers to recycle. I drove over to Avion Park and drove right into the huge warehouse they have set up, stopped by the sign for sneakers, and unloaded my car. I was on my way within two minutes.
If you have an item that you would like to recycle but aren’t quite sure how to do it, visit the ecopark website at www.monroecounty.gov/ecopark. There is an index on the right side of the webpage where you can search for how to dispose of anything!
Good luck with those closets...
