Valerie A. Myntti was first introduced to The Harley School in 1994 as a parent when she enrolled her daughter, Rebekah, in the nursery program. Since then, her roles at the school have included trustee, faculty member, Parent Council chair and, now, interim head of school.
The Harley School recently announced her appointment to the position while the school conducts a search for a permanent head.
“I just fell in love with The Harley School,” said Myntti, who lives in the Browncroft neighborhood. “There’s a quality when you walk in the front door that is magical. ... It’s a place where students can be who they are.”
Myntti, who practiced law in the Philadelphia area prior to moving to Rochester, said she was also drawn to the school’s innovative and creative approach to education.
While her daughter attended The Harley School, Myntti volunteered as a Parent Council room representative and served as chair of Parent Council. She later joined the Board of Trustees, serving on several committees, including development, strategic planning and the committee on trustees. She also served on two different head of school search committees.
Myntti later joined the faculty of the Lower School as a primary and nursery classroom teacher. In 2007, she accepted the position of director of admissions at Harley.
In her new position, Myntti said, she plans to, “just continue what we’re already doing here.”
“I just want to keep a steady ship,” she said.
Myntti plans to retire from Harley in June 2013 following a successful head search.
“I’ve loved the 20 years I’ve been affiliated with Harley,” she said. “It’s truly been the highlight of my life.”
