The music gets under way tonight on Rochester’s Main Street.

The Drum Corps Associates (DCA) World Championships return to Rochester starting tonight and running through the weekend.

The music kicks off at 5:30 p.m. today (Friday, Sept. 3), with individual, ensemble and mini-corps contests at several venues in downtown Rochester, including Main Street between the Genesee River and South Avenue, the Rochester Riverside Convention Center and the Riverside Radisson Hotel. They’re all open to the public and free.

The preliminary contest between all corps then starts at 2 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 4, at Rhinos Stadium, 460 Oak St., Rochester. Tickets are $27.

An Alumni Spectacular, also at the stadium, begins at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, with tickets at $18.

The actual 2010 DCA World Championships begin at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, again at the stadium. The top corps in two classes will fight for the title of DCA World Champions. All seats are reserved, and tickets are $32 and $57.

The entire event is expected to feature approximately 30 drum and bugle corps with a total of 3,000 performers — including a number from the Rochester area, many from throughout the United States, Canada, and one group from Great Britain.

For more information, go to www.dcacorps.org. You can still pick up advance tickets until 8 p.m. today at the box office at the Rochester Plaza Hotel, 70 State St.; or from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow or 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the box office at the Rochester Rhinos’ stadium.
