A Penfield man was charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident early Thursday.

Shortly after midnight, Monroe County Sheriff's deputies responded to the report of a vehicle striking a pole at 1529 Old Penfield Road. Upon arrival, no one was in the vehicle. A passenger returned to the site of the crash shortly after police arrived.

Deputies then apprehended the driver, Richard Torrellas, 42, Gennis Drive, in Penfield, with assistance of K-9 after resisting arrest and failing to comply with police.

He was charged with DWI (misdemeanor), resisting arrest, driving without a licnes, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Neither Torrellas nor his passenger were injured.
